This property, consisting of the mid 1870's (former) Cape Broom Hotel and hexagonal Dairy buildings along with a modern dwelling, represents a once in a lifetime opportunity to purchase a slice of Central Otago's heritage. The Hotel (approximately 190 m2) and dairy (approximately 30 m2) which is only one of three still standing in New Zealand, provided a service for the local community, as well as a changing station for horses enroute from Lawrence to Alexandra in the gold rush era. In the early 1900's all but the stone walls of the Hotel were destroyed by fire. The gutted building was firstly converted to a packing shed and later into a shearing shed. The Fruitlands area is rapidly changing and this could be a prime opportunity for the next owners to develop/restore these lovely old buildings. As well as the historic buildings there is a modern home situated in park-like surroundings. The home consists of open plan living, dining and executive kitchen with scullery. This room has argon filled double glazing and has a bright and inviting feel with a glass sliding wall leading to an outdoor living space. The master suite has a large roomy bedroom with ensuite, walk-in-wardrobe along with a separate TV/sitting area. This whole space is heated with underfloor heating, a Warmington woodburner and Warmington open fire. The guest wing, which is currently being operated as a Bed and Breakfast, has two ensuited bedrooms and a lounge area for guests to relax in. Established gardens and grounds complement this amazing property, but there is still more scope for new owners to make their mark. In addition there is a double garage, carport and workshop, providing plenty of space for extra vehicles and storage. Come and view this unique property which is steeped in history, you will not be disappointed.

Location Description

"Central Otago is as much a place in people's hearts, as a region outlined on a map"

Central Otago is famous for it's weather. It is a place with very definite seasons. Alexandra celebrates the arrival of Spring with the original Blossom Festival, welcomes an abundance of visitors and holiday makers for the summer period and has the most amazing colours on display for autumn. Winter is not left out with the locals and visitors alike enjoying the fresh crisp air and sunshine for ice skating, curling and mountain biking.

Along with these things, there are also a number of sports facilities in the town. Squash courts, netball and tennis courts, rugby and athletics fields, bowling clubs, golf courses in both Alexandra and Clyde and many more activities to become involved with. We have a local branch of the Parent Centre and Toy Library also.

A very family oriented area with a lot of options for children. The town has 2 kindergartens, 3 primary schools, a very good high school and a number of day care facilities. There is also a Playcentre and primary school in the nearby township of Clyde.

Alexandra and Clyde feature something for everyone - young and old. Take a trip to visit us and see what there is for you.
